General presentation

We are four young Belgians, our mother tongue is French, but all four of us speak English very well.

We always traveled by two : Xavier accompanied me in the Pyrenees, Matthew traveled with me in the USA from Missoula to Denver where he has been replaced by Julien, who drove with me from Denver to Albuquerque.

Belgium

Belgium (in beige on the map) is a wonderful little European country in which people speak French, Dutch or German, depending on the region. Our country counts11 millions inhabitants and stands totally and proudly independent from France ;-)

The capital is Brussels.

USA 2009 : from Missoula to Denver

Matthieu Debouche

Matthieu

My name's Matthieu Debouche, I was born in 1983, I love technical work, adventure and dreams.

I love the road however it comes: on foot, on a bike, on a Segway or by car, with or without blacktop, horizontal as frequently in our Flatland, or vertical like the cliffs I like to climb in my free time.

I met Pierre-Jean during our first and unforgettable year of university, and Xavier and during the three years I spent in the UCL, the university I left prematuratly on July 2007.

Since then, I jave been working for Skidata.
By generosity towards the car drivers, my job consists of setting up and reparing systems that enable people to park somewhere else than on the parkings spaces for disabled people (the only left free) on double parking, or everywhere else.

In fewer words: I work in public parking.

I love my work. It allows me to be on the road and do technical operations from programmation on a computer to precision soldering on printed circuits.

As the long evenings are sometimes boring, I follow evening classes in electromechanics, I am in second year. Yes, technical again,...

When Pierre-Jean told me about a second Segway trip, I jumped at the opportunity.

This website is about travels, not about me. So I try not to give too much information about me.

I can't resist the pleasure to tell you I can not be resumed nor to my disability nor to my travels. So you would be wrong to think that you know me well only by having read this website.

But if you have the opportunity, just come to me, I will be glad to meet you.

Nevertheless, here is some general information about me:

I was born on 6 September 1985, I'm student Civil Engineer at the Louvain School of Engineering.

It sounds pretty good doesn't it? It’s great for my credibility, and especially when you know that Michael Schofield in Prison Break did the same degree..

I am disabled because of a ski accident which occurred three years ago, and as you couldn't understand our travels without some information about it, there is a paragraph on that subject on the page How do we travel? .

Julien Schepers

Julien

Hi everybody !

I was the last to join that project! My job in this adventure was pretty simple : To bring back some prove, some trace, some memories from this journey. I am thus the cameraman who needed great flexibility and a high endurance to the lack of sleep end to physical exess to make the documentary

Born on january 20 in 1987 and graduated in cinématography in 2008 (no no i'm not an ingineer), I allways had a passion for the adventure, the discovery and the unknown. Sportman at haert, I also allways liked the thrilling, the extreme... Used to trekking in the Vosges, the long biking trek or summit climbing, I have seen my need for adventure, for encounters, and for sharing and respect during a journey to Burkina Faso.

My passion stay climbing, astronomy, documentary, photography or friendship !

Unlike what Pierre-Jean seems to think, this project stay for me a big step fowrard for the human nature. I will do everything so that the film sends this message.

Pyrénées 2008

Xavier Dubruille

Xavier

My name is Xavier Dubruille, I was born in 1985.

I have always had plenty of projects, my head full of the most eccentric dreams, but I realised very few of them. Nevertheless, I got the opportunity to live one year in a host family in the United States, I covered quite impressive distances hitchhiking, riding a bicycle or more frequently a monocycle (yes, this kind of one wheeled bicycle), but I never covered more than the hundred kilometres (using a monocycle).

Actually, one of the projects I care the most about is to adapt a gearbox on a monocycle in order to drive a thousand kilometres, but that's another story.

People often asked me why I did this trip in the Pyrenees, and the answer is simple: I love the road, and that's all.

There's no need for other justifications to take a backpack and go straight away, towards the unknown. By The Road I mean those hidden treasures or you can find on the road, those things that teach you so much about the world around you. But most of all, I mean those people you meet on your way because, despite my shyness, it's these encounters I'm looking for. There's nothing better than those sweet discussions on the terrace of a cafe, or those big debates when you rebuild a better world around a glass of beer (or a glass of wine for our French friends;-)

If it's so important for me, it's because those encounters have taught me the most important things in my life, those that make me who I am, and I owe it to the peoples I met.
